A Modern, Refined Take on Classic at Blue Hill at Stone Barns - Casey and Al

Some weddings bring together classic design with a modern, understated edge. This winter celebration at Blue Hill at Stone Barns did exactly that. Casey and Al envisioned a formal, black-tie evening that still felt warm and personal — a balance of polish and ease that carried through every detail of the day.

The bride carried a petite bouquet of lily of the valley — simple, elegant, and perfectly suited to the setting. Her bridesmaids held single-stem bouquets of white tulips, calla lilies, and sweetpea. The floral design throughout the day followed the same approach: crisp white flowers and natural greenery, but arranged with clean lines and sculptural shapes. It was a fresh take on a classic palette that worked beautifully in the space. Candlelight added warmth, with glowing votives bringing a soft, intimate feel to both ceremony and reception.

The ceremony took place in the Upper Hayloft on a white draped stage, framed by floral arrangements on clear pedestals and additional flowers gathered at the base near the steps. The aisle itself was lined with green and white blooms, creating a thoughtful, minimal backdrop for the couple’s vows. The bride’s sister-in-law officiated, making the ceremony feel even more personal and reflective of the couple. Before the ceremony, they signed their marriage license in the beautiful shed next to the restaurant.

During cocktails in the Lower Haybarn, guests enjoyed a menu that showcased the farm-to-table ethos of Blue Hill. Passed bites included farm-fresh vegetables, spicy lobster tacos, Koginut squash soup, and delicate caviar tarts. Wellfleet oysters with fennel vinaigrette, spinach burgers with ricotta, crispy potato croquettes with black garlic, and farm tortillas layered with charcuterie and mustard rounded out the selection.

Two signature cocktails were served — The Little Quince, made with quince tequila, beeswax, liquorice root tea and lime, and the Nashi Pear Old Fashioned, a mix of bourbon, poached nashi pear syrup, salt and charred cedar bitters.

As the evening moved into dinner in the Upper Hayloft, the space took on the feel of an intimate dinner party — refined, but not overly formal. The dramatically long head table was styled with silver candelabras and sculptural flower arrangements by Denise Fasanello.

The multi-course dinner reflected the same considered approach, paired with thoughtful wine selections:

First course — Badger Flame Beet, in the style of a tartare, served with Domaine Trotereau ‘Château de Quincy’ Vieilles Vignes, Loire Valley, France 2022.

Second course — Atlantic Halibut with New England style potato and shellfish chowder, served with Presqu’ile Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County, California 2023.

Third course — Grass-fed Beef with Koginut squash and fighter spinach, served with Château Brane-Cantenac ‘Margaux de Brane’, Bordeaux, France 2019.

After dinner, espresso martinis were enjoyed along with slices of chocolate and pear wedding cake, setting the tone for the dancing that followed. The Dane Wright Band gave an incredible performance on the stage, with Pegasus lighting the north trees outside to create a striking winter backdrop behind them.

Even in the transition spaces, no detail was overlooked. Denise Fasanello placed bud vases in the windows along the hallway into the Hayloft, adding a quiet, understated floral moment that connected the different spaces of the venue.

This was a black-tie wedding that never felt stiff — thoughtful, refined, and designed to feel inviting at every turn. From a personal ceremony to a lively dance floor, the evening reflected exactly what the couple had hoped for — a celebration that felt both elevated and approachable.  Siobhan Stanton captured the day so beautifully through her artistic eye.

Tzo Ai was simply incredible! As soon as she started working with us, the stress of planning and organization completely melted away. Tzo Ai was on top of every payment deadline, shared check lists of items she needed feedback from us on, proposed solutions and ideas for challenges, and advised on dos and don’ts for our venue given her extensive knowledge of and experience at BHSB. Our wedding day was beyond anything we could have hoped for thanks to Tzo Ai’s incredible skills and team. We had zero stresses day of because we had the utmost faith that everything was handled (which it absolutely was). We could not recommend working with Tzo Ai more - it was truly a dream!
