Winter Bowery Hotel Wedding

There is something so magical about a winter wedding.  Melanie and Greg chose the perfect venue at the Bowery Hotel with the warm brick walls, cozy fireplace and old world charm.  The bride looked absolutely gorgeous in Stella McCartney, with lace sleeves and a fringe tea length skirt, which showed off her stunning Valentino heels.

I loved the smell at the ceremony created by the dramatic garland that Rountree Flowers draped over the burning fireplace.  It was made up of fresh lemon leaf, magnolia, juniper and pine.  Divine!  The adorable flower girl crowns were so precious too.

For dinner the long tables tables were decorated with an organic rambling carpet of white pillar candles in assorted sizes, which gave the room such an incredible glow.  These were augmented by winter white blooms like white ranunculus, white spray roses, white anemones, dark privet berries and touches of velvety dusty miller.  Late night when the pillars were all burning down and oozing candle wax  was very romantic!  All beautifully captured by the talented Karen Hill.

Three Sixty Tribeca Wedding

The bride's vision for the wedding was very contemporary with lots of clean lines. Three Sixty Tribeca was the ideal venue for this 300 person wedding, especially since the groom works for a window company.  The entire venue was surrounded by 360 degrees of large windows, with incredible views of downtown Manhattan.  It was the first venue we looked at.  After seeing it, we knew it was the perfect fit.

The bride and groom's corgi looked so adorable in his doggie tux, that we had to have him part of the first look.  He almost stole the show from the bride in her drop dead gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown (also check out the bride's earrings, which I am obsessed with).  Strangers on the street kept wanting to take the corgi's picture!  After some portraits, the bride did a quick change into a qi pao for a Chinese tea ceremony with close family to honour their relatives.

The bride walked down the aisle holding a cascading bouquet of phalaenopsis orchids to a solo guitar playing the Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone.  That piece in the moment was so touching, I definitely had a tear in my eye.  If you have not heard it before, youtube it now!  This wedding was particularly special for me as I got to witness a Buddhist wedding ceremony which was officiated by three monks.  The sound of the monks chanting the incense prayer and reciting of the Great Dharani of the Medicine Buddha was so beautiful.  Knowing that many of the guests would not be familiar with a Buddhist ceremony, we created programmes in English and Chinese to explain each step.

As a nod to the groom's line of work, for the escort table we used 2 large windows to display the cards with a photograph of the couple as the backdrop.  The frame was painted red, an auspicious colour for the Chinese.  For the reception we kept the floral decor clean and modern with a palette of crisp white and green.  The centerpieces were comprised of phalaenopsis orchids, calla lilies and looped bear grass in three piece installations.  We incorporated green dianthus and succulents for their interesting texture.  The rectangular vases reflected and really multiplied the light from the square votives.  To make the white flowers really pop, we used a pewter crinkle taffeta linen with a subtle sheen.  Thank you to Susan Stripling for sharing these stunning images.

Intimate Per Se Wedding

Upcoming this year we have two weddings at The Foundry and two weddings at The Bowery Hotel.  Last year we planned two weddings at Per Se.  Things sometimes happen in doubles for us and with amazing venues like these, that is quite alright!  I am so pleased to be able to share these gorgeous images of the Per Se wedding from Karen Wise Photography here on the blog. This couple loved eating great food and wanted a really intimate dinner celebration for the wedding.  After looking at a number of delicious fine dining restaurants in Manhattan, they chose Thomas Keller's Per Se at the Time Warner Center.  They had their ceremony at City Hall on Friday and their dinner reception the day after.  With quite a few guests travelling in from out of town, we planned a walking tour of Greenwich Village through Big Onion.  Who would have guessed that a one day snow and thunderstorm would pass through Manhattan in October!  Despite the crazy weather, their guests were such troopers and still went on the walking tour (slightly condensed version).

The Bride wore a chic short black dress from Jason Wu with stunning platform leather pumps from Gucci.  Jessie from Rountree Flowers created a  bridal bouquet of white ranunculus, seeded eucalyptus and acorns, surrounded by sleek black feathers, and wrapped with a black satin ribbon with pearl pins.

The escort table was quite narrow, so instead of doing a large towering arrangement, a romantic loose garland of flowers and leaves was wound around the hand calligraphed escort cards.

The invitations had included an autumnal leaf motif, so for the wooden table signs, the Bride's brother continued the theme with laser cut leaves.  I absolutely loved the lush and opulent centerpieces that Rountree Flowers created.  The loose arrangement included kumquats, flowering jasmine vine, ranunuculus, scabiosa pods, garden roses, seeded eucalyptus and tulips.  Kumquats in a floral arrangement!?  Genius. Such beautiful texture and colours.  A natural acorn subtly dusted with fine brown glitter was placed at each napkin.  With a warm glow from the mercury votives, the tables had such a delicate sophistication about them.

The ombre wedding cake  was chocolate devil’s food cake with hazelnut nougatine and coffee cremeaux. The cake topper was three simple sugar ranunculus. Congratulations again to the happy couple!  I loved working with you on this special wedding.

Urban Southwestern Styled Shoot

Fortune Favors the Brave’s jewelry collection is inspired by a rugged Americana and Western sensibility mixed with a touch of 1970s-era glamour.  The jewelry represents a bold and modern reinterpretation of these classic themes, amped up with contemporary proportions for a wearable take on storied, ethereal metalworking techniques.  We found this modern tribute to the southwest as the inspiration for our bridal shoot.  We came across Agave Restaurant in NYC’s West Village- smooth adobe walls, cow skulls, with a bar beneath a wooden beam ceiling – and knew we had found the perfect urban southwestern venue.Make Merry used the jewelry as inspiration for the paper goods, incorporating many of the geometric designs into the invitation, escort cards, place cards and menus.  A deep gold liner was used for the invitation envelope and a silver liner for the response envelope.

In celebration of same-sex marriage becoming legal in the state of New York this year, we decided to use a bride and a bride for our shoot.  Abbey (an artist) and Perkins (a writer) are a real couple, which is so evident in the chemistry they had on camera.  Fortune Favors the Brave provided the jewelry and styled the two brides. Perkins wore an Equipment blouse, vintage blazer and skinny pants from Isabel Marant.  Gabriella New York Bridal Salon provided two dresses for Abbey.  For the wedding Abbey wore Amy Kuschel’s Valencia – a gorgeous dress with architectural layering, rose garden lace, and pleated netting.  A sheer V neckline provided a delicate frame to the bold jewelry she wore.

Abbey held a modern and romantic bouquet of Chocolate Cosmos, black Calla Lilies, and Succulents. The delicate petals of the Chocolate Cosmos softened the hard geometry of the Succulents and Callas. Perkins wore a boutonniere of a mini black Calla Lily and Succulent.

A bronze cord tied the escort cards to a six foot tall cactus at the restaurant entrance.  The tables were named for succulents like Blue Aloe and Dessert Rose.

Blush Designs created a modern southwestern centerpiece in Agave’s private dining room. Succulents and various cactus plants with pops of red nested in black sand created a low runner down the table. Blush Designs custom draped the table with a light grey chevron fabric with coordinating napkins. A dark brown leather cord tied the menu and napkin together.

The cake was simple and elegant, again using the jewelry design as inspiration for the geometric patterns on both tiers, with green sugar succulents as a bright accent.

The jewelry bar was set at Agave’s bar area, near the entrance of the restaurant. Guests were welcome to enjoy their drinks while adorning themselves with pieces from Fortune Favors the Brave’s collection. The jewelry was showcased on top of black sand in glass vessels, incorporating the jewelry into a landscape of succulents and cactus.

For the after party, Abbey slipped into a short sexy beaded fringe dress by Allison Parris with snakeskin booties by Loeffler Randall.

A big thank you for all the hard work that our team put into this project.  A special thank you to Blush Designs for conceptualizing the shoot and getting Ang Weddings and Events involved.  We were honoured to have our shoot published on Style Me Pretty.
