Blue Hill at Stone Barns Wedding with Sunflowers

Our first Tuesday wedding!  This was a destination wedding for the couple and it was such a sweet and intimate party.  Originally it was planned to be a small celebration in the main dining room of the Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant with a DJ.  The couple heard the amazing Hudson Project Band at a friend’s wedding, their guest list grew, and they ended up with a larger wedding for 109 in the hayloft with a 9 piece band!

The bride wore an elegant mermaid gown with a lace edged cathedral length gown.  She carried a bouquet of lace hydrangea, cream and pale yellow zinnia, white cosmos, pale peach roses and blush lisianthus, tied with a sage green ribbon.  I loved the varying palette of the bridesmaid dresses.

The outdoor ceremony took place in the courtyard under the magnificent tree.  There were seven flower girls and ring bearers, which made for the cutest introduction to the processional.  The Sterling String Quartet played Bridge Over Troubled Water for the processional, followed by Only Time for the bride.  A dear friend of the bride and groom officiated the ceremony.

After the ceremony, guests were invited to the Dooryard Garden for an outdoor cocktail reception among the vegetable and flowerbeds and fruit trees.  The seating chart showed the guests by table and was hand calligraphed by Ink and Nibs in a modern style.

I have always been fond of sunshine yellow and was so happy to hear that this couple loved it too.  For the dinner in the hayloft, Poppies and Posies used delicate yellow sunflowers woven throughout their arrangements of olive, geranium, zinnia, lisianthus, cosmos, dahlia and unripe raspberries.  These were displayed in ceramic vases that complimented the beautiful china that Blue Hill at Stone Barns uses.  Yellow taper candles in glass shades and terracotta votive candles brought a warm glow to the room.  Many of the guests had traveled from Asia and to make all guests feel comfortable, the bride and groom added individual chopsticks to some of the place settings.  Guests dined on fresh and preserved tomatoes with yellowfin tuna, Maine lobster in a corn and shellfish chowder, and Blue Hill Farm chicken with grains risotto, zucchini and mushrooms.  Passed desserts included s’mores, stone fruit sorbet, chocolate panna cotta with milk jam and hazelnuts, and Barber chouquettes.

The photographer Giuseppe Marano encouraged the couple to steal away from dinner for a moment and take some sunset photos. They turned out so beautifully!  We got them back to the party quickly and it was such a fun dance party all night long with the Hudson Project Band.
