Blue Hill at Stone Barns Wedding: Brittney and Adam

Brittney and Adam met at the circus!  Actually she was teaching him flying trapeze for a class that he was trying out.  They ended up having their engagement shoot while doing flying trapeze.  How awesome is that?

They decided on a digital save the date, but it was no less special as they had Fourteen Forty create a custom illustration featuring the bridge in Central Park (where Adam proposed) surrounded by a delicate garland of fall leaves and florals.  Their invitation suite was absolutely stunning with rich classic details in gold foil, watercolour florals and even a cute little pumpkin.  Brittney wanted it to have a fairy tale feel, and the pumpkin was a nod to that.  For their vintage stamps, Fourteen Forty managed to find three circus themed stamps, which were so fun to include along with the other floral inspired stamps.

Did you know you can have a wedding in the main restaurant at Blue Hill at Stone Barns?  They offer daytime weddings for a smaller guest count.  This worked out perfectly for what Brittney and Adam had in mind for their wedding.  With guests arriving at 10AM, we had an early start to the day.  Brittney and Adam wanted to take pictures before their guests arrived at Blue Hill, so she woke up really early to start makeup with Face Time Beauty at 5AM in the morning.  I’m an early bird anyway, so the early start was great for me.  Arriving at dawn at Blue Hill was quite beautiful.  For a while it seemed to just be me, Hannes (the man you need to know for BHSB weddings) and the baker (who was making the most delicious bread).  The bakery is right next to the private dining room, which was where we had Brittney get ready.

I love that Brittney and Adam both drove together from their home to Blue Hill.  Once they arrived, we had Brittney head to the private dining room and Adam to the restaurant’s front lounge area so they could both finish getting dressed and ready.  It was drizzling a little, but the cloudy weather actually makes for great pictures.  I was so happy to be reunited with my good friend Judy Pak on this wedding.

Usually for a restaurant wedding, the ceremony takes place on the lower lawn.  Due to the drizzle, we had to move things to a covered area.  The loggia in the restaurant accommodates about 60 for the ceremony, so we moved the ceremony to the covered area in the courtyard.  A.P. Bio created the most stunning floral arch for the wedding.  Doan (the owner of A.P. Bio) and I had been discussing the ceremony location change, and we were trying to decide which arch structure to use.  The larger option might have felt too much in the covered space, but when I explained to Doan the absolutely stunning glittery ballgown that Brittney was wearing, the larger arch was the only option.  The arch was so vibrant and bold with rich tones of coral, blush, persimmon and burgundy.

The past year and a half has been a difficult time for many.  Some couples had micro weddings without many of their friends and family present.  Brittney and Adam wanted to honour one such couple who were attending their own wedding and had them walk down the aisle and reaffirm their vows.  It was such a thoughtful and kind thing to offer.  Sterling Strings played beautifully for the ceremony and cocktail reception

Cocktails took place on the restaurant terrace.  Thankfully there was still the clear tent setup on the terrace, so it kept guests dry from the elements.  Brittney and Adam do not drink alcohol, so we had a special mocktail for them, Concord Crush (Concord grape, elderflower, soda).  In lieu of a formal guest book, Fourteen Forty created a custom piece of art for them.  A cherry branch, which guests used little pink blossom stamps to stamp and sign their name on.  It will make for a beautiful piece that they can frame and hang in their home afterwards.  For their escort cards, we used mini burgundy envelopes and pale pink inserts with metallic gold calligraphy by Megan Fahy.

Luncheon took place in the main dining room.  Brittney and Adam really wanted a setup that was really conducive for conversation and moving among the tables.  They wanted it to feel like a warm casual gathering of family and friends.  We settled on a mix of round tables, as we felt it allowed movement around the room the best.  Place cards with the coordinating floral accents were burgundy calligraphy on white.  The restaurant had just reopened for service a few days before the wedding, so there was also an amazing installation of dried hydrangea on the farm table.  A.P. Bio brought the vibrant colours from ceremony into the lunch as well.  The flowers were all so stunning!  For the luncheon:

First course: honey nut squash, miso, and grape mostarda

Second course: this morning’s farm egg, foraged mushrooms, last year’s preserved egg yolk

Third course: Stone Barns grass fed beef, fork crushed potatoes, romesco sauce

Passed desserts: brown butter upside down cake, mountain mint s’mores, chocolate panna cotta with seasonal fruit

Brittney and Adam had been ordering the CSA from Stone Barns and even purchased some Row 7 seeds to grow in their garden at home.  This resulted in them having their kitchen filled with baskets of center cut squash, which had grown very abundantly!  Brittney is a vegetarian, so she had asked the silent vegetarian option for the third course.  However anything except for center cut squash, since they were eating so much of it at home. Hah!

Guests were able to take home the floral arrangements from the dining tables, and they were happy to do so.  Not a single arrangement was left at the end of the party.  It was such a sweet wedding to end out our 2021 season with.  Congrats to Brittney and Adam!
