The Knot New York 2018: Winter Wedding at The Foundry

I am over the moon to see Bingqing and Han's intimate winter wedding at The Foundry in The Knot New York 2018 Fall/Winter issue!  Most of our weddings are 100-300 guests, but sometimes we get to plan a small wedding for 48 and it feels extra special.  Take a look at some of the thoughtful details below!  You can read more about the wedding on this blog post too.  Thank you to the The Knot for sharing our work!

Martha Stewart Weddings: "Something Old" Ideas

"Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" for good luck.  I shared my favourite "something old" idea with Martha Stewart Weddings!  Thank you for including me in this article.

Burgundy Red and Black Halloween Wedding at the Liberty Warehouse

Halloween is Jenn and Alex's favourite holiday, so it was only fitting when they found that weekend available at the Liberty Warehouse, they decided they were meant to get married on Halloween weekend!  Their favourite colours are black and red and they wanted to create a dark, moody and deeply romantic black tie event.

They were married under a dramatic chuppah of overgrown crimson reds and deep greens, with ivory candles in glass hurricanes at the base.  Two black cast iron urns marked the beginning of the aisle.  Jenn carried a bouquet with deep burgundy reds that were almost black.  It was absolutely stunning against her elegant Lihi Hod two piece dress (a sequin, crystal and pearl top over a satin skirt).  For the dinner reception Putnam & Putnam used black tapers in cut glass holders and black pillar handles in hurricanes which created a wildly romantic atmosphere.  The crimson red and deep burgundy florals had such interesting texture and moment.  They even used deep purple artichokes!

Jenn and Alex really wanted to create a fun party for their guests.  We brought in the Brooklyn Oyster Party for the cocktail reception, where two attendants shucked a variety of oysters for guests to enjoy.  We also had the Korilla BBQ truck come late night and serve Korean tacos and burritos to guests during the after party.  Guests were encouraged to bring Halloween costumes to change into.  For those who did not have them, we distributed a basket of masks for them to use.

Nine Cakes created a cake with a tumble of sugar flowers, metallic gold brush strokes on the top tiers and gold foliage accents.  Inside it had alternating layers of banana chocolate chip cake and dark chocolate cake, with two layers of cream cheese and a center layer of salted caramel frosting.  YUM!

One of Jenn's bridesmaids and good friends happens to be an amazing painter (Abe Design).  She painted pictures of Jenn and Alex from special moments in their lives together, which were printed in their save the dates.  She also painted the day of programme, cocktail signs and a portrait of the bride and groom.  Fourteen Forty designed their invitations and I loved the pearl white seal with an image of a masquerade mask that was used to hold the modern suite together.

This was such a unique celebration and we were so happy to have been a part of!  Thank you to Ron at Brian Dorsey Studios for capturing all these special moments!

The Surrey Hotel Rooftop Wedding

Chelsea and Kevin were married at an intimate ceremony with their closest family and friends on the rooftop of a boutique hotel The Surrey.  Dark clouds had been threatening us all morning, but thankfully it remained dry for their sweet ceremony and gorgeous photographs on the rooftop afterwards!  Guests were welcomed to the penthouse level with an elegant welcome sign of hand calligraphy on a framed mirror.   We had a string trio play Etta James' At Last as Chelsea walked down the aisle in a classic Monique Lhuillier gown with a cathedral length veil floating behind her.

The reception followed a few blocks away at Chef Daniel Bouloud's michelin starred restaurant.  We just had to bring Chelsea and Kevin to the the kitchen to take some pictures in there!  During the delicious meal, guests enjoyed a jazz trio, which then transitioned to a DJ for dancing later.

Written Word Calligraphy designed the save the date, invitation and the day of paperie.  I just love her modern calligraphy on all these pieces, making them so unique and special.  The gold foil stamping on ivory was perfectly classic, and her metallic hand calligraphy on the escort cards beyond dreamy.

Liberty Warehouse Wedding

Coming up on their first wedding anniversary on 4th of July, I realized it was high time I shared Sarah and Bobby's wedding on the blog.  They were married on a beautiful sunny day at the Liberty Warehouse, with stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline across the water.  The bride's grandparents were all immigrants and Holocaust survivors and her grandmother, who immigrated to this country after the war, was at the wedding.  The groom's family on both sides have been in this country for a very long time.  His father's side first came here in 1684 and a relative on his mother's side signed the Declaration of Independence.  Rabbi Gloria Milner did a wonderful job of weaving their stories into the ceremony.

Sarah and Bobby wanted to get married at a venue that was romantic, rustic and still felt very New York.  The floral design was vintage and garden inspired, with a touch of glam.  We used warm amber uplighting around the room and festive cafe lights over the dance floor.  For the escort cards, the bride hand tied sparklers to escort cards with a delicate blush ribbon.  When we were playing with the sparklers late night, fireworks started going off in the distance.  A perfect ending to a lovely wedding!  Thank you to the wonderful Dave Robbins for sharing these images with us.
