Style Me Pretty: Modern and Elegant Jewish New York City Wedding

This was one of my all time favourite weddings and I'm so happy to see it up on Style Me Pretty!  Not only because it involved the best wedding team, but because this is hands down one of the sweetest couples I've worked with.  Click on the image below to see more of Cristina and Jason's chic wedding at The Foundry.

The Foundry Wedding Video

If you have never seen stop motion video, you have to watch this.  One of the best I have seen by the incredibly talented Bayly & Moore.  They came all the way over from New Zealand to shoot Cristina and Jason's wedding at The Foundry and we are so lucky they did.  With luscious floral design by Poppies and Posies, it was such a delight working on this wedding!  (Full screen is best for the video)

Indian-Southern Wedding at The Foundry

The Foundry is one of my favourite venues and it is always a delight when we get to plan a wedding there.  I met Hadley and Pree shortly before their move from New York to Paris.  Hadley wanted to work with a NYC based wedding planner as she would be planning her special day from Paris.  I had such fun working with them to incorporate special details into their day to reflect her family being from the South and his family being from India.the foundry wedding ang weddings and events catherine leonard photography-1

The exposed brick and unique metal work always makes for an interesting background at The Foundry.

The black bridesmaid dresses and tuxedos made for such elegant portraits.  Isn't a wedding a great reason to get all dressed up?

It was such a sweet ceremony incorporating both American vows and Hindu vows.  At the end of the ceremony, Hadley and Pree exchanged flower garlands (varmala or jaimala), which signifies mutual acceptance of both Bride and Groom to each other as future husband and wife.

Long tables in the main dining room work so beautifully with the space.  We used grey linens (one of my favourite colours as exhibited by my website) and the flowers were a mixture of ivory and blush.  The wooden cross back bentwood chairs, votives and cafe lights brought a welcoming warmth to the room.

Sonnier & Castle did a great job creating a menu with both Indian and Southern flavours.  Their Indian influenced hors d'oeuvres included bhel in phyllo dough cups, paneer chutney pakora and murgh hariyali.   The American dinner included Jerusalem Artichoke Velouté with Chanterelle Custard and Walnut Bread Tuile and Braised Beef Short Rib with Tomato, Swiss Chard, Rosemary Polenta, Beef Mustarda.  Guests were raving about the food that night.

Guests were invited to write their words of advice on note cards for Hadley and Pree in their married life together.

The banana cakes with cream cheese frosting were from one of the couple's favourite bakeries in NY Billy's Bakery.  Their dog did not get to join the festivities that day, but was given a place of honour as a cake topper.  So cute!

Love in 2012

I often blog about wedding details, but at the end of the day, a wedding is about two people in love who are making a very special promise to each other.  Here are just a few of the amazing couples that we worked with in 2012.

The Foundry Wedding

This wedding makes me weak at the knees.  It was such a perfect balance of classic elegance and modern elements that I just adore.  With a Bride who is an architect and a Groom who works in publishing with a graphic design background, I knew their wedding would have incredible style.  Jiwon wore Amsale's Clara gown made from luxurious structured silk mikado, with a lace bolero from IHeartBride.  Later during the reception, she changed into a light and airy dress from Alice & Olivia. Thanks to Karen Hill Photography for sharing these images with us.

Jin designed the contemporary letterpress invitations and all the wedding day paperie. The clean lines and bold font complementing the industrial character of The Foundry perfectly.

The fact that The Foundry allows dogs onsite was a huge plus for Jiwon and Jin. They wanted Monkey to be part of their celebration, and looking at that face, you can definitely see why!

The flowers from Saipua were absolutely dreamy.  As you will see, I had real trouble editing these photographs.  Between Saipua's creations and Karen Hill's Photography, it was a really hard to choose my favourites from this wedding.

The two adorable flower girls wearing dresses from Zara Kids.

Monkey was part of the processional and the recessional, which everyone loved!  His black bow tie was actually a human bow tie instead of a dog bow tie.  The former was more affordable.  Go figure.

Jiwon's twin brothers were some of the most helpful siblings I have ever met at a wedding.  They helped me track down missing family members for portraits, were perfect ushers, and gave a hilarious speech during dinner.  Thanks guys!

Saipua used a soft summer palette of whites, ivories and greens, with full and round flowers for a romantic feel.  The different containers they used along the tables made it so interesting, with each guest getting a different experience.  The tables were covered with mercury glass taper candle sticks and pillar candles.  The brick ledges were covered with a deluge of glass votives.  It took a while to stuff all those candle sticks, but the warmth and romance they created made it all worth it!

For their wedding favours, we had little glass jars of tasty Papabubble candy, with personalized labels.

Nine Cakes created a dessert table of five white cakes with different buttercream textures, macarons, tartlets and truffles.  Such a pretty display and everything was delicious!

Congratulations to Jiwon and Jin.  Thank you for letting me be part of your special day!
