Love in 2012

I often blog about wedding details, but at the end of the day, a wedding is about two people in love who are making a very special promise to each other.  Here are just a few of the amazing couples that we worked with in 2012.

What a Year

As 2012 draws to to a close, I have been reflecting on what a great year it has been. I have had the pleasure of working with some wonderful couples on their wedding days. I still find it an incredible honour to be chosen to be part of someone's special day.  It is such a priceless moment when I see everything coming together on the wedding day and share in the intimate moments of love between a couple and their family and friends.  Thank you to all my awesome couples in 2012!A big thank you goes out to my wedding industry family.  I have had so much fun collaborating with incredibly talented wedding professionals this year, both cementing long standing relationships and developing new ones.  Our weddings are such a success because of the hard work, dedication and creativity that everyone brings to the table.  Thank you to Style Me Pretty, New York Magazine and Munaluchi Bride for the love they have shown us this year.  Thank you also to my wonderful assistants, Laureen and Ashley.  Much as I want to be in three places at the same time on wedding days, I can't, so thank you for your hard work on our weddings this year.

I am super excited about the couples we are working with and the weddings we are planning in 2013!  We will be working with some fabulous wedding professionals at a wide range of venues.  Some old favourites and some interesting new ones.

It will be a fun day in the kitchen for me today.  We are having family over for dinner tonight, so I will start the day baking an apple pie for dessert.  For dinner we are having duck breast in a red wine sauce, brussel sprouts and bacon, sweet potatoes, braised red cabbage, and cheddar and chive biscuits.  Happy Holidays to my clients past and present, and to my wedding family!

Some pictures of us working this year.

Andaz 5th Ave Wedding

Samantha was one of the most relaxed Brides I have ever had the pleasure of working with.  When you are an ER doctor, who deals with high pressure situations on a daily basis, the stress of other things just pale in comparison!  She was a delight to work with also because she was happy to leave the details to her wedding professionals.  I always ask my clients for their preference (if any) on different aspects of the wedding. Samantha knew exactly the colour palette and feel she wanted for the wedding.  When she had an opinion on something, she was never afraid to give it, and when she didn't have a strong feeling on one of the little details, she would often say "whatever you and Jessie (Rountree Flowers) think would work best".  Music to a designer's ears. How gorgeous is this bouquet?

The wedding took place at the super stylish Andaz 5th Avenue Hotel, which Kevin had read about in an architectural magazine.  Apt 2E has a number of different rooms, which made for an interesting flow for the wedding celebration.  My favourite room was the library, where the ceremony took place.  Rountree Flowers styled the bookshelf using lush ivy, ferns, jasmine vine, lattice lanterns, candles, family photographs from the Samantha and Kevin, and the hotel's own props.  I love what a unique backdrop this created, like you were inviting your guests into your own home for your wedding ceremony.

We placed a wedding popper on each ceremony seat and during their recessional there was a joyous sound of poppers exploding and streamers flying through the air!

The location of the hotel made perfect sense as it was right by Bryant Park, where Samantha and Kevin had their first date.  The weather was beautiful that day and they were able to spend some time doing portraits around Bryant Park.

Cocktails took place in the open kitchen where guests were able to see Chef prepare the food.  Great fun for all the people who love food!

Dinner was in a room with spectacular views of the New York Public Library.  We used the hotel's dark wood tables and black bellini chairs for a sleek and contemporary feel. Along the tables, Rountree Flowers placed a silver runner with a lattice pattern and soft sheen that reflected the candlelight beautifully.  The varied arrangements included deep red dahlias, vanda orchids, black beauty roses, silvery grey dusty miller, grey brunia and a touch of seeded eucalyptus.  Samantha found red double happiness boxes in Taiwan, that she filled with Lindt Chocolates for wedding favours.

Congratulations to Samantha and Kevin!  It was such an intimate and unique wedding. I had so much fun working with you!

Something Borrowed from Grandma

Marianne and Collin were married on a beautiful day at Linden Terrace Fort Tryon Park.  Fashion changes so much that let's face it, it is highly unlikely that you will end up wearing your Mother or your Grandmother's gown on your wedding day.  A lovely way to honour them is to incorporate some part of their wedding fashion into your own. Marianne did this in such a sweet way by using the buttons from her Grandma's wedding gloves and sewing these to the back of her gown.

Garden Roses and Cabbage Roses

Some of my clients tell me that they do not want any roses at the wedding, but they may not have considered garden roses or cabbage roses.  These look so different from traditional roses, with their many layers of petals creating a soft and feminine feel.  They are a good substitute if you love peonies, but peonies are not in season for your wedding or they are out of your budget.  Here are some gorgeous arrangements including garden roses from some of my favourite designers.
