Brooklyn Black Tie Celebration at The Weylin

Katie and Paul were married at the magnificent Weylin in Williamsburg on a beautiful October day. The bridesmaids wore black dresses of their own choosing and they looked so elegant with the groomsmen in their tuxedos. Katie wore a gown by Lela Rose with beautiful textured floral details.

The hint of colour for their wedding started with their invitation suite by Katie Fischer Design, which had gold foil stamping on dark grey stock and exquisite pink and burgundy watercolour flowers with more foil details. Poppies and Posies brought in their lush and organic florals with a romantic palette of creamy whites, blush, rich burgundy, green and gold. I loved how we continued the watercolour details on their day of paperie and how that complimented all the real flowers that day! At each place setting, we had a double charger setup with the guest’s name written in gold hand calligraphy at the top of each menu.

The 6 tier wedding cake from Nine Cakes had ribboned buttercream, swiss dots and brushed metallic gold with a romantic cascade of sugar flowers. Inside was lemon funfetti cake, layered with vanilla buttercream, lemon curd and fresh raspberries. Sound House from Elan Artists kept the dance party going all night! The after party continued downstairs in Bar 1875 with savoury late night snacks. Their day was captured by the wonderful Jack Jeffries at Christian Oth Studio.

Copper and Navy Fall Wedding at Blue Hill at Stone Barns

Sara and Chris were looking for a bucolic venue not too far from the city, and they found that at Blue Hill at Stone Barns.  They were able to host a wedding that felt elegant, seasonal, wild and autumnal.  Sara was 6 months pregnant and wore an elegant silk gown with flower appliques from Elisabeth Fillmore.  Chris wore a bespoke navy blue Martin Greenfield tuxedo.  I loved the flower girl dresses from Isabel Garreton with the navy details.  They looked so cute with their crowns incorporating porcelain berries!

For the florals, Sara wanted something that was wild and unfussy.  Saipua was the perfect choice.  Creating arrangements like a beautiful Dutch still-life.  The colour palette for the ceremony was lighter, incorporating blush and warm peach tones.  Going into cocktails and dinner, the colours evolved into deeper and more saturated tones, purple, gold and deep chocolate.  Permissions (a staple of Sara's childhood and something that signified the coming of winter) were incorporated into the arrangements.  Katie Fischer Design created an invitation suite with modern and marble elements, complete with copper calligraphy by Mary Ellen on dark navy envelopes.

Chris is a production designer and created a neon sign for the cocktail hour.  Sara is a writer/director, and edited together a compilation of scenes from their favourite films, which was projected over the bar and played like a silent film.  Colourful streamer panels from Color Condition and luxe lounge pieces from Patina made for a fun cocktail hour atmosphere!

The seasonal food from Blue Hill at Stone Barns was incredible.  We started with a beet salad with fresh yoghurt and pine nut butter, then had a second course of lobster and brussels sprouts, and finished with lamb loin, butternut squash and a risotto of grains.  Each course with a thoughtful wine paring.  During dinner a New Orleans jazz band Roamin' Jasmine played and later we transitioned to a DJ from 74 Events for dancing with lots of soul and old hip hop.  Thank you to Judy Pak for documenting their celebration so beautifully!  One of my all time favourite weddings I was so delighted and honoured to have been a part of.

Wave Hill Wedding

The details in Emily and Marco's September wedding at Wave Hill were a sight to behold that day.  The one and only Saipua created a floral dream that brought Wave Hill to a whole other level.  I loved the four lush urn arrangements and the white benches for their ceremony at the romantic pergola overlooking the Hudson.  At Wave Hill House, they brought the garden inside with lush garlands, gorgeous flowers, towering trees on the tables and glowing candlelight everywhere.

In this digital world, I have to say it makes me adore paper and beautiful invitations even more.  Katie Fischer Design's invitations were my absolute favourite from last year.  The perfect combination of modern, fresh and elegant.  Paperfinger calligraphed all the text, Katie hand drew the rose, everything was letterpressed on thick stock and Katie hand painted each piece the colour of cafe au lait dahlia (which needed a mix of four different colours).  I am sure their guests appreciated that each piece of stationery they encountered was a piece of art!

Now let's talk about the fashion!  Untraditional and down right amazing.  Emily wore a white J. Mendel top, a pink and gold rose Dior skirt with black tulle underneath, and metallic rose gold Dior shoes.  Marco wore a crisp white dinner jacket from Ralph Lauren.  Don't you think more men should wear this at their weddings?

Another unique element I loved was their jazz band The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys that played their ceremony, led a second line to their cocktail reception and kept the party going during dinner.  Later that night DJ Sam Turner from Beat Train Productions played a great set and kept everyone on the dance floor.

A big thank you to the talented Jillian Mitchell who captured this special wedding in such a light filled, romantic and striking way.  It was so hard for me to edit the images down for this post!

Emily and Marco's wedding was published in Martha Stewart Magazineon their website, and in Once Wed.

Wave Hill Wedding on Once Wed

This wedding was particularly special for a number of reasons.  The couple had such a distinct style, I had the pleasure of working with the uber talented team at Saipua and I was working at Wave Hill, where I was married myself.  Once Wed put together such a beautiful spread of the wedding.  I am so happy with all the love this wedding has received, which has been well deserved for something as beautiful as this.  (Also featured in Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine.)  Thank you to Jillian Mitchell for her sublime images.

Wave Hill Wedding in Martha Stewart Weddings

I am so excited to share Emily and Marco's Wave Hill Wedding with you in Martha Stewart Weddings.  Admittedly I may have done a little dance when I read the email from the photographer that it had been picked up for the real weddings special issue.  This was a very unique celebration with some of my favourite wedding vendors and at a venue that is personally very special for me.  With floral design by Saipua, paperie by Katie Fischer Design and calligraphy by Paperfinger, it was a sight to behold that gorgeous day.  Thank you to Jillian Mitchell for capturing all the beauty, so I know that it wasn't all just a dream.
