Classic Rainbow Room Wedding

Somia and Jared had a beautiful wedding at the iconic Rainbow Room. It was my first Muslim marriage ceremony and I loved learning about the traditions and customs. Somia wore two stunning gowns by Zara Shahjahan with jewelry from Neemar, and Jared wore a classic black tuxedo. The bridesmaids wore different gowns, but in a complimentary palette ranging from champagne to blush with sequin details.

For the ceremony Poppies and Posies designed a floral installation that grew up from the ground to decorate the ceremony area, but still show off the impressive views of the New York City skyline. Somia carried a bouquet of creamy white dahlia, spray garden rose and quick fire hydrangea. After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed Bateel dates as they moved to the cocktail reception. We brought in a mirrored escort table from Luxe Event Rentals and the cards were hand calligraphed by Mary Ellen.

Lush florals continued in the Rainbow Room with high and low arrangements filled with creamy white and pale blush dahlia, snapdragon, and roses ranging from creamy white to soft blush and dusty rose. We draped the sweetheart table in a blush sequin linen to make it a little extra special. Poppies and Posies had florals growing up from the ground at the sweetheart table, wrapping around the banister behind and two large urn arrangements in the backdrop too! The bride had found some hand torn vellum cards that we used for place cards with metallic gold calligraphy tied with a pale blush silk ribbon. The menus had a geometric blind debossed background with gold foil lettering, in the same style as their elegant invitation suite from Bella Figura. The wedding cake from Ron Ben-Israel had their invitation monogramme in gold, abstract mixed metallic accents and exquisite sugar flowers.

It was still daylight when guests were invited into dinner and the space was filled with rainbows from all the crystals hanging in the windows reflecting the sunlight! It was a wedding filled with such love from their families and friends. One that I will always remember fondly in my heart. Thank you to Heather Waraksa for capturing all this goodness!

Snowy Winter Wedding at The Foundry

Bingqing and Han were married in a snowy winter day in New York.  We had really lucked out as there was a big snowstorm the day before.  The day of the wedding, the skies were clear, but the ground was blanketed in a bright white layer of fresh snow.

The bride is an architect and she had designed their invitation suite with a detailed hand illustration of The Foundry.  Prior to the guests arriving they had a Chinese tea ceremony with close family to pay respect to their elders and receive good wishes for their marriage.  This was followed by an intimate wedding ceremony, officiated by a friend of the couple.  We kept the palette clean with creamy whites and crisp greens.  Going into dinner, Poppies and Posies added more colour with blush, dusty rose and pops of burgundy in the florals.  The two long tables were scattered with a sea of elegant tapers in different aged brass candlesticks and crackled amber and pale grey votives.

Their elegant wedding cake from Nine Cakes had two different flavours.  The bottom tier was lemon cake with layers of lime curd and orange zest cream cheese buttercream.  The top tiers were rich chocolate cake layered with cloud like caramel buttercream, fleur de sel and roasted pecans.

Bingqing loves to sing and instead of doing the traditional mother son and father daughter dances, they decided to have both sets of parents dance with each other and Bingqing sang a beautiful Chinese song.  It was such a sweet and intimate winter wedding and we were so happy to be part of it!

The Foundry Wedding

This wedding makes me weak at the knees.  It was such a perfect balance of classic elegance and modern elements that I just adore.  With a Bride who is an architect and a Groom who works in publishing with a graphic design background, I knew their wedding would have incredible style.  Jiwon wore Amsale's Clara gown made from luxurious structured silk mikado, with a lace bolero from IHeartBride.  Later during the reception, she changed into a light and airy dress from Alice & Olivia. Thanks to Karen Hill Photography for sharing these images with us.

Jin designed the contemporary letterpress invitations and all the wedding day paperie. The clean lines and bold font complementing the industrial character of The Foundry perfectly.

The fact that The Foundry allows dogs onsite was a huge plus for Jiwon and Jin. They wanted Monkey to be part of their celebration, and looking at that face, you can definitely see why!

The flowers from Saipua were absolutely dreamy.  As you will see, I had real trouble editing these photographs.  Between Saipua's creations and Karen Hill's Photography, it was a really hard to choose my favourites from this wedding.

The two adorable flower girls wearing dresses from Zara Kids.

Monkey was part of the processional and the recessional, which everyone loved!  His black bow tie was actually a human bow tie instead of a dog bow tie.  The former was more affordable.  Go figure.

Jiwon's twin brothers were some of the most helpful siblings I have ever met at a wedding.  They helped me track down missing family members for portraits, were perfect ushers, and gave a hilarious speech during dinner.  Thanks guys!

Saipua used a soft summer palette of whites, ivories and greens, with full and round flowers for a romantic feel.  The different containers they used along the tables made it so interesting, with each guest getting a different experience.  The tables were covered with mercury glass taper candle sticks and pillar candles.  The brick ledges were covered with a deluge of glass votives.  It took a while to stuff all those candle sticks, but the warmth and romance they created made it all worth it!

For their wedding favours, we had little glass jars of tasty Papabubble candy, with personalized labels.

Nine Cakes created a dessert table of five white cakes with different buttercream textures, macarons, tartlets and truffles.  Such a pretty display and everything was delicious!

Congratulations to Jiwon and Jin.  Thank you for letting me be part of your special day!

Angel Orensanz Wedding

I really enjoyed working with Katie and Adam.  Their Jewish wedding was full of symbolism and meaning.  It was a spectacular venue and they had a fun-loving bridal party.  Seeing a couple so much in love being joined in marriage is always a joy and an honour. The bridal party got ready at the Thompson LES hotel, just a few blocks away from the wedding venue.  They had a penthouse suite, which also served nicely as their after party venue after the wedding.  The floor to ceiling windows and balcony offered sweeping views of downtown New York.

The dress was designed by Birnbaum and Bullock, personal friends of the Bride.  An elegant strapless jewel encrusted lace gown with a lace edged veil.

Katie and Adam had their first look on the balcony of the hotel suite. It had an incredible view of the city with the Empire State Building in the background.

Portraits were taken around the stylish hotel.

The Bridesmaids wore Two Birds bridesmaid dresses in silver, with the Maids of Honour wearing dresses with an ivory bodice.  The bridal party joined the Bride and Groom for portraits on the New York streets around the hotel.  I love the contrast of the beautifully dressed group against the graffiti covered walls and grungy streets downtown.  Anthony and Barbara from Anthony Vazquez Photography captured the day beautifully with a striking edgy style.

Looking sharp guys.

I always remind my couples to eat the morning of the wedding.  Thank goodness nothing from the pizza dripped on the white gown!

The wedding ceremony and reception took place at the Angel Orensanz Foundation for the Arts.  The Foundation is housed in one of the oldest surviving gothic-revival synagogues in New York, and has proudly kept its architectural integrity.  When it opened in 1849, it was the largest synagogue in the United States.

The chuppah was decorated using sheer white draped fabric with orchid blossoms and hanging votives.  A family heirloom, a talis, was incorporated into the roof of the chuppah.  The hanging chandeliers were draped with a mix of ivy and passionflower vine.

The tables were named for different cities that the Bride and Groom had visited together.  Each table had a framed name of the city and a framed photograph of the couple there.  The floral design for the long tables was a combination of vanda orchids, purple sweet pea, lavender snapdragon and lavender spray roses in antiqued silver vases.  A friend of the couple made the paper goods for the wedding.

Adam had proposed to Katie at a John Mayer concert a year prior.  When John Mayer saw this was happening, he made up a song on the spot and serenaded the newly engaged couple from the stage.  This was caught on video, which went viral after being uploaded to YouTube.  We played the video on four plasma screens just before the introduction of the Bride and Groom to a huge round of applause and laughter from the guests.  Later during the reception, the Adam surprised the Katie by jumping on stage, picking up his electric guitar and singing Wonderwall to her.  Together with the touching speeches from family and friends, it was an incredibly meaningful evening, so full of love.

Bernard Brim and the New York Players from Starlight Orchestras kept the dance floor packed the entire night.

Nine Cakes created a beautiful dessert table of five different flavored cakes on stands of varying heights and a selection of mini desserts.  The cakes were decorated with jewels in purples and blues with accents of silver.  It was a feast for the eyes and just as tasty.
