Central Park Boathouse Wedding

Pam and Paul were married on crisp fall day in New York.  Coming into the planning process, she was not sure exactly how she wanted it to look, but she did know she wanted it to be timeless and elegant.  This was a classic wedding with details that will never go out of style.  Pam's gorgeous ball gown from Dennis Basso with the lace sleeves and sweet belt cinching her waist was breathtaking.  She got ready at the Plaza Hotel which gave Sue Kessler from Christian Oth Studio beautiful portrait opportunities both in the hotel and in Central Park.

For their save the dates, they had an artist hand draw a black and white map of Manhattan with details of their wedding locations and a few landmarks.  The traditional invitation was hand calligraphed and engraved in midnight blue with gilded beveled edges.  The envelope liner and belly band cut from gilded silk screen Japanese paper added a fun pop of colour and personality to the suite.  Pam loved the Japanese paper so much, it was also brought through to the wedding day items in the programme liner, table number borders and menu belly bands.

As guests entered the Central Park Boathouse, we had a jazz quartet from Elan Artists playing some of Pam and Paul's favourite jazz standards.  One of the bridesmaids even joined in and sang "At Last".  During the dinner reception, the Blaire Reinhard Band played such a great set that we had to invite guests to be seated for their courses multiple times as they didn't want to leave the dance floor!  Pam sang in college.  During dinner with some college friends she sang a cappella "To Make You Feel My Love" to her husband.   It was such a tender moment.  For their favours, we did cute little pies in a jar from Tiny Pies in Texas, which is where Paul is from.  These were displayed at each place setting, with alternating flavours of sweet Texas pecan pie and apple pie.  Those together with a floral and lace detailed cake from Nine Cakes were the perfect ending to a sweet celebration.

November

This has been a very busy November, as we just completed three weddings over three consecutive weekends.  I don't tend to book so many things together as I like to space things out.  However two of these were full planning weddings, and those were the dates that worked out best for the venues we wanted and the auspicious date for a Chinese wedding.  When a month of coordination wedding for a client of Fiona Conrad presented itself as the third, it was hard to say no as I love her work.  There was a nice gradation with these weddings, as we had 300, then 200 and then 100 guests at each.  They were all so different as well.  One of the reasons why I love this job so much is bringing to life different couples' visions and often they can be so varied in style.  The first had a very clean and contemporary style with lots of whites and greens in a white loft space Three Sixty.  The second a classic and traditional wedding at an iconic New York venue, the Central Park Boathouse.  The third wedding at Morningside Castle had a lot of fun DIY elements that our crafty bride had spent months working on.Someone asked me recently if this job was what I had expected it to be.  I think the biggest surprise when I started doing this was the physical aspect of it.  I'm certainly not 21 years old anymore.  Coming from a corporate job of seven years, where I sat in front of a computer all day, my body was in for a surprise!  Even though I always worked out regularly, and walked everywhere, being on your feet for 12-15 hours on a wedding day is a whole new thing.  The first few weddings I did were tough, but your body learns, and now it isn't so bad.  Having said that, it did feel good after our third November wedding to be able to put my feet up and not have to start working immediately on a wedding for the following weekend.  No chance of sleeping in, as I have a 9month old baby at home, but it was still nice to finally take a day off.  Thank you to my wonderful assistants Laureen and Ashley, who are invaluable on big wedding days.

I can't wait to share images of these weddings with you from some incredible photographers, Susan Stripling, Christian Oth Studio and Mademoiselle Fiona.  In the meantime, here are a few instagrams from my iphone.

Central Park Boathouse Wedding

Tara and Jesse were lucky enough to have a whole wedding weekend.  We started with a rehearsal dinner, which was hosted at their family home.  Tara and Jesse love to cook and had made the food for a 100 person dinner!  The next day everyone woke up bright and early for an afternoon wedding at the iconic Central Park Boathouse. This was followed by an after party at a loft 320 studios, where everyone danced to the wee hours, fueled by a popcorn machine we brought in.  The weekend was rounded out with a brunch the morning after.  What a great way to extend the celebration with friends and family!Central Park Boathouse Wedding - Ang Weddings and Events - Craig Paulson Photography-5

Tara has beautiful penmanship.  She hand-wrote the invitation envelopes for their wedding.  She also wrote their ketubah and the escort cards.  Jesse is a mathematician, so the escort cards contained equations which led guests to their tables.

The couple wanted to bring in a blend of jewel tones for their floral decor, with purples, blues and reds.  Thistles and berries added a textural element to the softer hydrangea and iris in the centerpieces.

Tara and Jesse did not want a traditional wedding cake, and requested a simple but delicious sheet cake.  When I sent them to Amy at Sugar Flower Cake Shop, she had none of it.  When they were ordering a sample tasting cake from Amy, she found out that their invitations had been designed by the uber talented Atelier Isabey.  A quick call to Margot at Atelier Isabey to get a copy, and Sugar Flower Cake Shop sent a sample cake that was decorated with elements from their invitation design.  Tara and Jesse were floored by how beautiful the cake was, changed their minds, and had Sugar Flower Cake Shop create three wedding cakes for them!  A central cake influenced by their invitations, which was flanked by two flower boxes.

Central Park Boathouse Wedding on Style Me Pretty

I am delighted to share this Central Park Boathouse wedding with you!  The Bride and Groom put so much thought into making sure their friends and family that did not know each other would hit it off at the wedding.  Their wedding led to new friendships, which made them really happy.  Isn't that the sweetest?
