Athenaeum Wedding

With so many strapless wedding dress options, it is nice to see a Bride choose to wear straps.  This Amsale gown had a fun lattice tulle skirt, dramatic embellished flowers at the waistline and a plunging back.  Anne looked absolutely gorgeous and it suited her perfectly for an outdoor wedding in California.Athenaeum Wedding - Ang Weddings and Events - Next Exit Photography-1

The colour palette for this summer wedding in Pasadena was green and white; always refreshing and light.

The reception took place at The Athenaeum with its Mediterranean style architecture and timeless feel.   The gardens provided so many pretty backdrops for their portraits.

Wedding favours were little pots of tea labelled "Love is Brewing".  In lieu of a guestbook, mad libs were provided for guests to have fun filling in the blanks.

I loved how the paper lanterns and lights twinkled above as the guests danced the night away.  It was a day full of happiness and laughter.  Just as a wedding should be.

The Foundry Wedding

This wedding makes me weak at the knees.  It was such a perfect balance of classic elegance and modern elements that I just adore.  With a Bride who is an architect and a Groom who works in publishing with a graphic design background, I knew their wedding would have incredible style.  Jiwon wore Amsale's Clara gown made from luxurious structured silk mikado, with a lace bolero from IHeartBride.  Later during the reception, she changed into a light and airy dress from Alice & Olivia. Thanks to Karen Hill Photography for sharing these images with us.

Jin designed the contemporary letterpress invitations and all the wedding day paperie. The clean lines and bold font complementing the industrial character of The Foundry perfectly.

The fact that The Foundry allows dogs onsite was a huge plus for Jiwon and Jin. They wanted Monkey to be part of their celebration, and looking at that face, you can definitely see why!

The flowers from Saipua were absolutely dreamy.  As you will see, I had real trouble editing these photographs.  Between Saipua's creations and Karen Hill's Photography, it was a really hard to choose my favourites from this wedding.

The two adorable flower girls wearing dresses from Zara Kids.

Monkey was part of the processional and the recessional, which everyone loved!  His black bow tie was actually a human bow tie instead of a dog bow tie.  The former was more affordable.  Go figure.

Jiwon's twin brothers were some of the most helpful siblings I have ever met at a wedding.  They helped me track down missing family members for portraits, were perfect ushers, and gave a hilarious speech during dinner.  Thanks guys!

Saipua used a soft summer palette of whites, ivories and greens, with full and round flowers for a romantic feel.  The different containers they used along the tables made it so interesting, with each guest getting a different experience.  The tables were covered with mercury glass taper candle sticks and pillar candles.  The brick ledges were covered with a deluge of glass votives.  It took a while to stuff all those candle sticks, but the warmth and romance they created made it all worth it!

For their wedding favours, we had little glass jars of tasty Papabubble candy, with personalized labels.

Nine Cakes created a dessert table of five white cakes with different buttercream textures, macarons, tartlets and truffles.  Such a pretty display and everything was delicious!

Congratulations to Jiwon and Jin.  Thank you for letting me be part of your special day!

Sneak Peek of an Athenaeum Wedding

Last month Laureen and I managed to escape the NYC summer heat and hopped on a plane over to Pasadena, Los Angeles for Anne and Kevin's wedding at the Athenaeum.  We were lucky enough to have both Cat and Adi from Next Exit Photography work with us that day!  Here is a sneak peek of the wedding.  I still cannot get over the stunning Amsale gown, with the textured lattice covered tulle skirt and gorgeous neckline.  When Anne was choosing her wedding gown, her face always lit up when she put on a tulle gown.  Perhaps it was happy memories of her dancing as a child in tulle skirts.  This wedding was definitely full of happiness and love!

Bridgewaters Wedding in South Street Seaport

I am so happy to be able to share these images from Julia Newman Photography here on the blog.  This wedding was recently featured on Style Me Pretty, where the groom wrote a memorable and humourous description of the wedding day.Johan and Meghan are the sweetest couple and I feel so blessed to have met them and been part of their special day.  Funnily enough I met Meghan while getting my hair cut by the lovely Nercy of Alchemy Space Salon.   She was next in the chair after me and we struck up a conversation thanks to Nercy's introduction.  For Meghan and Johan, the wedding day was all about a celebration with friends and family.  They both come from large families and it was so lovely to see how close they are and how much they mean to their friends.  All together a very sweet and meaningful day.

They chose a quintessentially New York City inspired letter-pressed invitation suite by the ever stylish Ceci New York.

These first look images that Julia took just outside the Andaz Hotel are priceless.

The weather was glorious that day and the bridal party took advantage of that by taking portraits around South Street Seaport.  At this point I was at the church setting things up and greeting the musicians and officiant.  It was so lovely when I received these images and could see the magic that Julia was weaving.  Meghan was not even going to try on this gown at her Amsale appointment, but with some urging from her little niece, she tried on "the sparkly one" and ended up getting it!  I think it look fabulous on her.  So elegant, and with interesting details to make it really special.

....and they're married!

The reception took place at Bridgewaters, which has incredible views of the water, ships and bridges.  The weather was nice enough for guests to enjoy the terrace and the view.  Their band The Touch kept the dance floor packed the entire night.  It was the flower girl, Meghan's niece's birthday, so during the speeches, they brought out a birthday cake especially for her.  Inspired by halloween, we set up a table covered with glass bowls and different types of candy for guests to take home as favours.

Ceci New York also created the paperie for the wedding, with an apple motif to represent New York City.

One of the sweetest moments was when Meghan surprised Johan with this personalized cake topper, with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background and Johan wearing an SF Giants hat.

Julia Newman Photography also provided a photo booth that the guests never stopped using throughout the reception.  It being three days before halloween gave everyone the incentive to really dress up and have fun!

I had a blast working with Meghan and Johan.  Congratulations again!
