The Plaza Wedding

The Plaza is one of those iconic New York venues.  If you want a ballroom wedding, Emily and her team at The Plaza really know how to throw a fabulous one!  Both the Terrace Room for the ceremony and the Grand Ballroom for the dinner reception took my breath away that evening.  Verde Flowers did an incredible job creating a ceremony filled with lush green, white and pink, and a reception incorporating fun pops of coral and salmon.

The groom found a very old photograph of The Plaza which we incorporated into the envelope liner of their classic letterpressed invitation suite.  I loved the elephant that we used on the ceremony programme and menu, and printed on sugar cookies for the favours.  The progression of music really changed the tone of each part of the festivities.  A classical harp and flute duo for the ceremony, an Indian music trio composed of a tabla, sitar and harmonium for the cocktail hour, and a DJ who seamlessly interwove top 40s and Indian music to keep the dance floor packed all night for Aparna on Omar.  Check out the wedding below with all of the pretty captured by Judy Pak.

It is such an honour to have Sarah and Bobby's summer wedding at the liberty warehouse featured on Snippet and Ink!  I have been following this blog for many years and find it a great source of inspiration.  The incredible photography, beautiful layouts and the unique details make this wonderfully curated blog a must read.  This was a fun collaboration with Dave Robbins Photography, Verde Flowers and many more talented people.  Click on the image below to see the full post.  Don't miss their highlight video from Kiss the Bride Films.

Penguin 1st Birthday

I have planned a lot of weddings, but this is the only 1st birthday I have planned.  My daughter was born on a snow day in Manhattan.  I remember distinctly looking out the window and watching the snow falling softly as we waited for her to make her appearance.  I decided to make her 1st birthday a winter one-derland theme.  It snowed the week leading up to her party, so everything was appropriately white. Betsy from Nine Cakes designed the fun cake with a totally adorable penguin on top.  We went for classic flavours, vanilla cake with chocolate frosting.  She also made banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.  Everything was so delicious.  I may have eaten 2 cupcakes and 5 slices of cake over the next day or so.  You are amazing Betsy.  Thank you for making my baby's birthday extra sweet!  After putting together so many dessert tables for weddings, I certainly couldn't let the chance pass to put a little one together for my baby.  The chocolate chip cookies were from Tate's Bake Shop with cute little milk bottles to go with them.

Luke's Lobster provided super fresh lobster rolls and crab rolls.  Wish I had taken a picture of the little rolls, but we were all too busy tucking into them.  The Meatball Shop provided hearty beef meatballs in classic tomato sauce and chicken meatballs in mushroom gravy sauce.  We had little slider buns so guests could make their own sliders, or just eat the meatballs on polenta (there must have been many sticks of butter in that was crazy good).  For favours I packed up desserts for guests to take home.

Happy Birthday baby!  Not such a baby anymore.

W Hotel Wedding

I'm so happy that Jenna and Eddie chose a bright and punchy colour palette for their new york wedding.  Jenna wanted white flowers, but with bright pops of purple and pink.  By Yena Designs brought her vision to life effortlessly.  Creating a wedding that was modern and fresh.  My favourite part of the floral design had to be the installation at the escort table with 3 types of orchids.  It was such a show stopper and the first thing that guests saw when they walked up the grand staircase to the wedding. Here are some pictures by the talented Christine Chang Photography who captured the fun couple in just the right way.  Jenna in her stunning lace and tulle Monique Lhuillier gown really took Eddie's breath away when he saw her.  There were many happy tears shed at their first look.  Moments like these constantly remind me how lucky I am to do what I do.

To complement the colour palette, we lit the ballroom with a clean white on the length of the walls to showcase the beauty of the architectural details, and a subtle pop of purple at the ends.  The cake by Ron Ben-Israel with a gorgeous garland of flowers across the tiers was the perfect ending to this fun celebration.  Not being able to decide which of the delicious flavours to go with, they chose to do alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate cake, with separate layers of roasted pistachio, passion fruit with lime and salted caramel fillings.  The different cake layers looked so pretty when cut.  If you can, why not?!
